Right now we only cover our home suburb of Brunswick, so we can do it properly. When Brunswick's done we'll move next door. We’ll cover all of Melbourne eventually.

There's more to life than capitalism. We cover small businesses and organisations as much as the big ones, so people can live and work in alignment with their community values.

Your neighbours on a mission

We're a small team of Melburnians who are building up a database of everything that's happening in Brunswick, and we do mean just about everything. Every shop, every service, every park, every eatery, every event. Then we're publishing it here on the Neighbo website.

Why? Because we don't want foreign-owned big tech platforms to decide what you get to see. Social media was once a great way to connect to your local community, but that's changed over the years. Now, local businesses and community groups hardly get a look-in unless they pay big tech companies to be seen.

Our mission is to empower Melburnians to spend and behave in alignment with their values, increasing their sense of belonging and happiness overall. We provide an alternative to the enormous platforms that have become the gatekeepers of local information. We're confident we can make something better, because we know Melbourne better than big tech ever will. Plus, we're not out to squeeze every dollar from its people.

We reckon Neighbo is already the most comprehensive source of information about Brunswick. Over the next months and years we'll be expanding until we cover everything in Melbourne.

Hi! I'm Charlie Gutjahr

I'm the founder of Neighbo and a lifelong resident of Brunswick. I started Neighbo because it's getting harder to know what’s happening near me because the big tech platforms are increasingly filled with scams and AI slop. Even when the information is legit, their algorithms are pushing what they want on me instead of giving me what I ask for.

So I'm building Neighbo as an antidote to all that. While the tech world is distracted by AI chaos, I'm hoping to sneak in something that is more trustworthy and human. An app made by your neighbours instead of a machine.
