Barkly Square is the main shopping centre in Brunswick where you will find Coles and Woolworths and a few major chain stores, as well as several long-running independent stores. The precinct extends beyond the shopping centre itself into surrounding streets, with several dozen shops along Weston Street to the north and Barkly Street to the south. Barkly Square has a large, free car park but it does get busy and it fills up completely at peak times.

Other grocery options

The Coles supermarket is much larger than the Woolworths here; the Woolworths owes its small size to its previous life as a Franklins Fresh. There is full-size Woolworths a few blocks north on Albert Street. There's also a large Aldi on Sydney Road near Dawson Street. Further north there is the giant Italian supermarket Mediterranean Wholesalers near Victoria Street. Finally the much-loved Supa IGA near Stewart Street is back again after a fire in 2024.
