Lygon Street is one of two of Melbourne's most famous precincts for restaurants, cafes, and bars. Not that long ago Melburnians thought of Lygon Street to just mean the Italian section in Carlton which was one of Melbourne's earliest restaurant districts, but in recent years the East Brunswick section has flourished into its own hotspot with its own—arguably cooler—vibe. When Time Out named Brunswick East one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world that's thanks to Lygon Street.

The southern section between Brunswick Road and Glenlyon Road is the focus for food, drink, and nightlife. If you're headed out to Lygon Street at night that busy southern section is probably the part you want. The longer northern section from Glenlyon Road up to Albion Street is a little quieter and more suited to local residents, but there are several standout venues worth visiting north of Glenlyon so don't discount a place just because it's not in the busy section.
